The
South Devon Railway
'Grand Diesel Gala'

Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th May 2003

The South Devon Railway in association with the Devon Diesel Society and the South Devon Diesel Traction Group are staging a spectacular two day Diesel Gala on the scenic South Devon Branch line. The DDS and SDDT have already built up an excellent working relationship and are combining forces to plan, promote and run this very ambitious event.

The two day event will feature a whole range of attractions and it is the organisers aim to go not only for quantity, but also quality and to provide visitors with value for money and a memorable day or weekend out.

All of the SDR's operational home fleet will be in use and this "Superb" fleet will be supplemented with two visitors to the event, Class 20 20166 and Class 33 33110 kindly visiting from our friends at the Bodmin and Wenford Railway.

The movement of 20166 and 33110 from Bodmin to Totnes is expected to be undertaken by Freightliner Heavy Haul with one of its Class 66/5 locomotives. On arrival at Totnes it is planned that the Class 66/5 will remain on the SDR all weekend and will make a popular exhibit at Totnes.

A special timetable will operate during the event. This has been designed to give the best possible use of all operational locomotives, and in addition to the frequent passenger service a variety of demonstration goods trains will also operate.

If you want to see and hear what the event organisers can do with a Class 04, 3 Class 20's, a Class 25, a Class 33, a Class 50, a Class 66/5 and a Class 127 DMU (and more), we look forward to seeing there.......you won't be disappointed!

There will also be several other 'side shows' during the Diesel Gala and these will hopefully include model railways and one or two sales stands and of course a bar on the main set serving a selection of real ales from local breweries.

Further details will be posted on the Websites and in the Press when available.
